John Morrey was a pitcher for Gordie at Lewis from 1967 till 1970. Then John coached for Gordie for several years and when Gordie went to St. Francis John become his assistant baseball coach and assistant athletic director. John then accepted the head baseball coach position at St. Xavier University in Chicago where he took his team to the NAIA World Series in 1982 and 1988, as well as being named NAIA Baseball Coach of the Year in 1988. He then became the head baseball coach at Xavier University in Ohio from 1993 till 2004. John is in four halls of fame. John has great insight into Gordie’s greatness after spending many years at his side on the bench.
